PARENTING YOUR PARENTS

Perhaps your parent relocated to the area to be closer to family, especially the grandchildren. Over time, the adult child finds that he or she is providing more and more help to the parent. Helping with medications, maybe taking Mom to doctor's appointments or perhaps making important decisions for Dad. According to a study by the National Institute of Health, many caregivers receive inadequate preparation for the tasks they are expected to assume on behalf of their parents. The Medicare program became law in 1966. Under Title XVIII of the Social Security Act, Medicare provides health insurance for persons over the age of 65, persons who are under 65 and disabled, persons with ALS-Lou Gehrig’s Disease and persons with End State Renal Disease (ESRD).
